The City of Sturgis, S.D., was founded in
1876 and is named for Maj. Samuel D. Sturgis, commander of the nearby
Fort Meade Cavalry Post whose son Lt. Jack Sturgis lost his life with
Gen. George Armstrong Custer at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. The
famed Seventh Cavalry was housed at Fort Meade, where the Star-Spangled
Banner got its start as America’s national anthem.
Sturgis is often referred to as the Key
City because to enter the beautiful, serene and majestic Black Hills
National Forest one must pass through Sturgis. While there is some
evidence of fur traders, explorers and military expeditions to the area,
it wasn’t until the discovery of gold in the Black Hills that great
numbers of white men descended upon the area.
To the south of Sturgis is Black Hills
National Cemetery also known as ‘The Arlington of the West.’ To the
northeast of Sturgis is Bear Butte or Mato Paha (sleeping bear
mountain). A geologic wonder, Bear Butte is a holy mountain to the Sioux
and Cheyenne who still make pilgrimages here. It is here, on 500 acres
nestled in the shadow of Bear Butte, one can find Sturgis Brown High
School and its 820 students and 55 certified staff.
Hundreds of thousands of ‘bikers’ also make
pilgrimages to Sturgis, generally during August of each year, when the
city hosts the premier motorcycle rally in the world. To the west,
just minutes from Sturgis, is the historic western town Deadwood on
which the HBO series “Deadwood” is based. For those looking for a
sense of freedom in uncrowded places, stunning terrain with unparalleled
tranquility, a place with all seasons where one can hunt, fish,
snowmobile, hike, rock climb or ski – Sturgis, South Dakota, population
6,400, is for you. |

Noble
Street Charter High School
opened its doors in 1999. The Noble Network of Charter Schools was
established in 2005 to open additional campuses that replicate Noble
Street
Charter High
School.
We continue to receive significant funding for expansion due to our
nationally recognized
academic success with lower income students in a disciplined
environment. The USMC has been a partner in this success since 2000. We
will continue this partnership and expand the MCJROTC program along with Noble Street. We have opened four new
campuses and will continue opening two new campuses a year until 2009
with an MI at each campus. We anticipate second instructors will be
hired once all four classes of students are on deck. Begin an
outstanding second career in the worlds greatest city. Be a plankowner
at one of our new Chicago campuses!
Two vacancies are available for Academic Year '08-'09. DI and/or Supply
experience is desired but not required. Contracts are 12 months with a
liberal vacation and sick day policy. Because the school contributes an
additional 7% of an instructors salary into Chicago Teachers Pension
Fund (CTPF),
payment into social
security is discontinued. Annual bonuses, competitive benefits package
and 401K plan available.
Due to our charter school status, residency within city limits is not
required.
Are you an MI now and considering moving? A relocation stipend is
available if you have previously executed your final PCS move.
