For the second time in three years, the Adams County High School
Marine Corps JROTC unit, Eagle Battalion, received the Marine Corps
Reserve Officer's Association Award, elevating them to Naval Honor
status. This distinction is given to only 20% of all schools in
the nation. ACHS JROTC joins an elite group of only six other schools
in the country. It is also the highest award that may be attained
and it reflects a superior standard of excellence.
According to J.D. Bristow, Senior Marine Instructor at Adams City
High School, this elite status is reserved for only the finest organizations
in the nation. “Our unit has distinguished itself and brought
pride and esprit’ de corps to ACHS, our school district, and
our community with their continued exceptional performance,”
said Bristow. “I cannot express how proud I am of these fine
individuals. They continually raise the bar and nothing could please
me more,” said John Lange, superintendent of schools for Adams
14.
The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is a regularly scheduled
class that focuses on leadership, discipline, citizenship and physical
fitness. Weekly events include drill (marching), uniform inspection,
physical training and academic instruction. Students have many opportunities
for after-school activities as well. In addition to the drill and
marksmanship teams, they have regular opportunities for community
and school service projects.
