Cadet Colonel Allison Gordy

Cadet Colonel Allison Gordy
was selected as the 2009 recipient of the Legion
of Valor Bronze Cross for achievement for Region
Two. The selection to receive this prestigious
award is a tribute to her effort and recognizes
the exceptional level of leadership and
scholastic achievement she has attained. As the
2009 recipient for Region Two, she joins an
elite group of young leaders.
Cadet Colonel Gordy is a
senior at East Coweta High School, is involved
in both extra-curricular activities at school
and in her community. She enjoys helping
others, being a positive role-model, and
preserving our natural environment.
As she is completing her
fourth year in the JROTC program, she is also
finishing her time as being the Commanding
Officer. This position and program has given
Allison many leadership opportunities and
challenges. Learning to work with a diverse
group of people teaches more social skills than
she could have every of imagined. The program
has given her many true friends that she
believes will stay for life because of the trust
built between each cadet as individuals and as a
team. It also selects their top cadet to compete
for the Legion of Valor award and Allison Gordy
has not only been selected as the top cadet for
the MCJROTC Program at East Coweta, but is now
the region representative.
Sports have also played a
part in the daily activities of Allison’s life.
This year she is finishing her third year on
both the cross-country team and track team. She
had the privilege of being the captain of the
cross-country team giving her the ability to
promote team spirit and strengthen her qualities
of being a leader. Being able to compete is one
thing, but being able to compete as a team and
lead it is another. Outside of school she is a
member of her church’s women and co-ed softball
teams and the co-ed volleyball team. Being
involved in the youth group and Sunday services
is something she loves doing. These activities
let Allison enjoy time with others as well as
providing her a healthy lifestyle.
Not only is she involved
in sports but also many clubs. As the historian
for the National Honor Society, she will be
providing the club with a way to look back on
these years’ activities. Other clubs she is
involved in include Beta, Students Against
Destructive Decisions, Fellowship of Christian
Athletes as an officer, and Junior Red Cross as
the Secretary.
When looking at the time
spent in school activities, it is hard to
imagine that there is time for areas outside of
school. However, Allison finds the time to be
involved in many community service programs.
Sponsoring a community blood drive that
collected 60 pints of blood for the American Red
Cross is one project she is proud of. Taking
care of the environment is important to her;
therefore, she has assisted in many Rivers Alive
clean-ups, Bring One for the Chipper, and Storm
Drain tiling efforts. The River of Life program
has given her the opportunity to help others in
two different communities. During these week
long events she improves the homes of others by
painting, repairing and planting just to name a
few.
The 4-H program in Coweta
County has provided many learning opportunities
for Allison in the past eight years. She
mastered in the Project Demonstration area of
Forestry and Wood Science last year and in
Forestry Judging competition this year. The
Forestry Judging team will be competing
nationally next summer.
After graduating from high
school, Allison will be become a college student
to major in the nursing field of physical
therapy and minor in forestry and environmental
sciences. She is ready to start her years as a
college student, but as of now enjoys living out
her busy life as a high school senior and being
a role model to those around her now as a
leader.
